CHRISTMAS COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAM
By Donna Asbury
The Grace Seventh-day Adventist Church participated again this year in the Christmas program sponsored by the Helen Ross McNabb Center. The Center serves needy children who come from families whose incomeis below poverty level, from single parent families, and from families with disabled parents. Some of the children have been abused, some have emotional problems, some have learning disabilities, and some are chemically dependent. The Center provided Christmas gifts for over 450 children.
We were able to provide Christmas presents to seven of those needy children. The Helen Ross McNabb Center sent us Christmas wish lists that the children had submitted. Each list contained three toys that the child would like to have and sizes of clothes each child wore. The Center stressed the fact that the wish lists were only guidelines and we did not have to purchase everything on the lists. Each child received the three toys they put on their wish list and a complete outfit, socks, shoes, pajamas and underwear.
What started out to be a Women's Ministry project turned out to be a project supported by the entire church. Even though we will never know the children the we provided the gifts for, our prayer should be that they will feel the love of God through our efforts. May God richly bless each and everyone that participated in this outreach to our community.
